Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as Dreamville Records' the first artist of female gender with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. On the 21st of October, 2016, she released Pho, her debut EP under the label Dreamville Records. That was the day she began to gain recognition. Her first studio album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox has been uploading her music since 2012, with the debut mixtape "Five Finger Discount" and her EP Ariography. Ari Lennox continued to post her songs online, including her self-released single Bound. She was featured in Omen's Elephant Eyes, in Sweat It Out July 21st the 21st of July, 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew back then was interested in having her work on Rihanna reference.
